I thought I had completed this piece but the longer I stared at it I felt like something was missing. Years ago after building our home I remember sitting in the living room and thinking Oh great now I’ve got to decorate it! In feeling overwhelmed I looked for guidance. I remember watching a decorating show called Room By Room. After they would decorate the room they would add that one unexpected element. That’s what I was missing in this painting. Looking for the unexpected I kept seeing black and white stripes…that was the beginning of the unexpected!
